Abstract: | We informally survey various topological/dynamical tools which have proved useful in two-dimensional fluid dynamics and other applications. These include braids, isotopy classes, the Thurston-Nielsen trichotomy, pseudo-Anosov maps, topological growth rates and isotopy stability of dynamics. All definitions and hopefully a physical intuition will be provided. |
