The environment of bright QSOs at z ~ 6's image
Description: The movie shows the formation of a very massive black hole according to the simulations performed at the IoA/KICC. It starts at a time of about 400 million years and runs until 1 billion years after the Big Bang. By this time, the black hole has reached a mass exceeding two billion solar masses, making it the most massive black hole in the simulations. In the movie, gas is colour coded according to its radial velocity, with lighter colours indicating higher radial velocities. The black hole is fed by enormous amounts of inflowing gas (blue) and drives powerful outflows (red) that escape out to large distances from the quasar. The comparison of simulated quasar outflows with observations will provide an essential tool to pin down the physical mechanisms underlying the interaction of massive black holes and their host galaxies.
