Abstract: Our 8-year long research on interactive approaches promoting collaborative learning culminated in publishing two linked books. The video records the launch of both books. Sara Hennessy presents the first book (Bridging between Research and Practice) that describes how we have been bridging the gap between academic and classroom cultures with our innovative university-schools research partnerships and joint theory reformulation over several years. Paul Warwick presents the other book (Developing Interactive Teaching and Learning Using the IWB) that offers a practical outcome of this work – a professional learning programme to support classroom dialogue and engaging, interactive whole-class teaching using the interactive whiteboard. Concrete, illustrative examples and guided activities help teachers review and build on existing practices, adapting them to be more dialogic and productive for learning, and exploiting the IWBs already in their classrooms.

The collaborating teacher-researchers Lloyd Brown, Diane Rawlins and Caroline Low share examples of how they developed their use of IWB for interactive teaching and learning and what impacts their participation in our research had on their teaching practice, students’ learning and their own professional development.

The video illustrates a collaborative approach to educational research and presents tips and ideas from the resulting resource for teachers.
