Abstract: Dr Erik Wennerström, Director, Swedish National Council on Crime Prevention (Brottsförebyggande rådet - Brå) - an agency under the Ministry of Justice, acting as a centre for research and development within the judicial system.

Erik has previously served as Principal Legal Adviser in International Law with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden. His academic affiliation is primarily with the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He has a background with the the Swedish Ministry for Justice, the European Commission and the Folke Bernadotte Academy of Sweden, and has been an adviser to countries seeking membership of the European Union on rule of law matters. Dr. Wennerström has been a member of his country's delegation at the United Nations General Assembly on Rule of Law matters from 2007. He has also been a member of various expert committees in his country, within the Council of Europe and the European Union. Dr. Wennerström holds board memberships in several Swedish legal societies and is the author of many publications, including, "The Rule of Law and the European Union".
