Abstract: This Wind Quintet by Henry Tozer received its world premiere at Madingley Hall on 11 March 2012, where it was performed by Ragbo, alongside works by Beethoven and Ligeti. This short piece is inspired by the early songs of The Beatles; three verses, choruses, a middle-eight and an instrumental break all often in under two minutes. The language features tonal centres and uses a range of techniques including added values reminiscent of Messiaen and rhythmic tessellation. The verse displays a conversation between the flute and oboe over a bubbling accompaniment and the chorus brings all the instruments together in octave unison.
