One such writer is Diodorus of Sicily, long studied almost exclusively for understanding his sources. But Diodorus was writing during the time of Julius Caesar and the Roman Civil Wars, and this paper will demonstrate how important it is to understand Diodorus and similar authors in their own historical context and how this context has decisively shaped Diodorus’s view of history regardless of his sources. |
