Abstract: | Applied Research of Cambridge was a commercial spin-off from the Martin Centre in 1969. Ed Hoskins headed it as Managing Director and later Chairman. During the 1970’s ARC grew to staff of about 40 people, mainly involved with consultancy and bespoke software development for hospital design and construction and transportation modelling. By 1985, ARC had become a major UK CAD Systems supplier. Applied Research of Cambridge pioneered Building Information Modelling(BIM) in a project for Oxford Regional Health Authority in early 1970s. This lecture looks back to consider what can be learned from this early project. |
