About this item
Description: |
In Kalmykia, a link between generations was severed for a number of reasons, including Stalinist exile . Because of this, we do not have much information about what was going on in Kalmykia in the past. For example, we know precious little about the clothes that monks wore in Kalmykia. Nobody knows exactly how different parts of the monastic clothes were named. Old photos and paintings show that the monastic clothes were different from those worn by monks in Mongolia and Tibet. No one knows about the origin and production of these clothes. Whilst we know that some Kalmyks monks wrote about their attire, most of what was written is lost today.
